Youth

Our youth activities ensure that young people have the opportunity to enjoy fun and meaningful experiences independently of their primary carers, thereby contributing to their social development and reducing social isolation. Our provision provides a wide range of stimulating, fulfilling and enjoyable arts activities.

Castaway Youth Theatre

CYT are an accessible theatre company who meet weekly during term-time. We provide a space for members aged 8-18 to create theatre inspired by their own interests. Sessions are led by actress, puppeteer and street-theatre artist Zoe Hughes, musician Tom Hill and highly-trained support worker Julie Brooks. CYT work on theatre-making and performance skills and this year there will be opportunity to work with Castaway Music Theatre's Mainhouse production of Wizard of Oz at Junction, Goole.

Starting points for original composition vary from loose abstract themes to specific briefs and commissions for other Castaway groups. The group works towards recording and performance opportunities each term as well as delivering music workshops in the community. Wherever possible, the Sloop Group takes part in regional and national events promoting quality music making. For Ages 10 - 25

Holiday Activities & Projects

We provide a variety of projects to add to our weekly youth provision.  These are developed in a day or across a number of days on a project to project basis and culminate in a celebration or performance of some kind.  The projects vary in focus sometimes offering one art form e.g. acting or music and sometimes focusing on combined arts projects such as film making and devising performances. See below for our current offer.

Arts Award

All our members up to the age of 25 have the opportunity to complete an Arts Award in whichever group(s) they attend to support them developing as artists and leaders and gain an accreditation for their work.

Arts Award’s unique qualifications support young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. The programme develops their creativity, leadership and communication skills. Arts Award motivates and celebrates young people’s artistic achievements. Young people can achieve an award through any arts, media or cultural activity, developing knowledge and understanding of their chosen art forms. Arts Award is managed by Trinity College London in association with Arts Council England.
